Chevrolet Blazer EV RS 2024

Jul 15, 2024

“No Longer a Truck – Now An Electric SUV”

By Arv Voss

OVERVIEW:

In 2019, the Blazer was brought back as a two row mid-size crossover to the disappointment of many former Blazer fans, who yearned for an off road capable SUV. For 2024, the Blazer bows in electrified form with varying powertrain configurations.

There are five different trim levels: LT eAWD, 2LT eAWD, RS eAWD, RS RWD and a more powerful and top of the line SS version.  Base pricing will range from $50,195 to $65,995 The Blazer SS pumps out 557 horses and is claimed to scoot from 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds.

DESIGN:

Essentially, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV takes on a distinctly all new form and execution inside and out. It’s not simply a Blazer outfitted with an EV form of propulsion. It displays clean and curvaceous lines in an eye-appealing package.

POWERTRAIN CHOICES:

Blazer eAWD models draw their motive force from two motors: a Front motor:

permanent-magnet synchronous AC, 241hp, 225 lb-ft. and a Rear motor:

Induction AC, 90 hp, 121lb-ft. Combined power 288 hp, Combined torque 333 lb-

ft. Battery Pack: Liquid-cooled lithium-ion, 85.0 kWh. Onboard charger: 111.5

kW.

Peak DC Fast-charge rate:150 kW. The RWD RS is powered by a single more

Powerful motor that delivers 340 horses. Transmissions consist of Front and

Rear: Direct Drive units.

EPA Mileage Rating is 96 MPGe – 103 city – 88 highway – 35 kW-hrs per 100

miles . Range is estimated at 279 miles. AWD versions reduce the range from

RWD models.

CABIN ACOMMODATIONS:

The Blazer EV models are only available in a two seat arrangement but both front

and rear seats are spacious and serve up plenty of comfort for adult occupants.

All models feature a sporty atmosphere that is suited to the exterior design flavor.

RS and SS trims come with a two-tone black and red color theme which may be

deleted to a more monotone design.

The rear seats fold down, increasing the 26 cubic-foot cargo space to a larger 60

cubic-foot area with a flat floor.

All models are equipped with a 17.7-inch infotainment display angled toward the

driver, framed by manual controls for the sound system volume (a knob) and

climate control system. A supplemental11.0-inch displays gauges along with

additional driving information. The Blazer EV’s Infotainment system is the latest

version offered by GM, using Google Built-In featuring software providing easy

access to popular apps. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is not

available but the overall interface is intuitive and the Nav system provides a

remaining range estimate for destination arrival with charging station suggestions

along the route.

DRIVER-ASSISTANCE AND SAFETY FEATURES:

Chevrolet  bundles several driver assistance features together as standard fare,

including automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection. A parking

assist feature and lane-keeping assist with lane departure warning. Adaptive

Cruise Control is available with GM’s Super Cruise Hands-Free Driving mode.

WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE COVERAGE:

Chevrolet provides standard coverage limite=s fir the Blazer EV’s electric

powertrain components, including the first maintenance visit. The Limited

Warranty covers 3 years or 36,000 miles. The {Powertrain Warranty covers five

years or 60,000 miles. Electric components are covered for eight years or

100,000 miles.

AS TESTED:

Our 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV RS AWD came with a Summit White exterior with

a Black and Adrenaline Red interior. The base proce was set at $56,200 while

the final sticker came to $60,215 after factoring in optional features and

equipment and the destination charge.

OUR FINAL TAKE:

The Chevy Blazer EV RS AWD is a bit on the pricey side of the electric SUV

chart and while it is not exceptionally luxurious inside, it is both spacious and

comfortable as already stated. The exteriror on the other hand is eye-catching

and appealing. Handling characteristics are on a sporty level and acceleration is

adequate rather than blistering.

Braking is regenerative and when active provides several levels of driver

selectable regen, with the highest setting delivering one-pedal driving.

All in all, this is a pleasing electric SUV.
